"What match?"

"What match?" He asked. "Austria-Hungary" I replied. "Oh," he said, "who against?" (- From the page of Richard Corbett, Erstwhile MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber, www.richardcorbett.org.uk)

It is always interesting to see how old filiations grow and change over time; the old association between Austria and Hungary, so keenly remembered in the citation above, is no longer a political marriage, but the recognition of something in common, in the past, in the background. Whether this played a part if the creation of the „EXP:AK“ initiative, also known as the Austrian-Hugarian Academy of Experts, is anyone’s guess, but one can note that Austria maintains such academies with other old partners, such as Slovenia and the Czech Republic.

On May 18th 2011, the Austrian – Hungarian Academy of Experts will come together in a labour market-related conference, and raise some subjects that are interesting to us:  the social security allowance, important to any employee or job-seeker, the value of voluntary work, but, above all and most importantly for individuals interested in the ECo-C, employability.

Employability fundamentally translates as the „ability to be employed“; however, anyone who has looked at international labour markets in more than passing knows that this is not the point: in today’s world, whether someone can be employed matters less than how well they can convince their potential employer that they are the right person for the job, arriving at the right time for the firm. With its self-marketing and communication modules, the ECo-C no doubt has insights to share about the subject, so we at eco-c.eu dearly hope our voice and viewpoint will speak and be heard at the conference!
